Luca Beach

This is just a small pull out along the end of Anini Beach past the Anini Beach Park. It has parking on either side of the road, and isn’t much of a beach, but rather a collection of rocks and sand shaded by some large trees. You’ll know you found it when you see the tsumani warning tower, and if you see the Private Road sign, you know you went too far.

Usually the road isn’t as bad in this spot, and parking is available. However it’s such a small beach, there isn’t room for many people. If you find it full, walk down the beach in either direction (or road) to find another sandy spot to park your chair. There is a slight current taking you down towards Wyllie Beach, but rarely is strong in the summer months.

It’s a fun place for kids, they can explore the rocks, and there is usually plenty of sand to dig in. There is a lot of shade, so depending on time of the day, you may not have much sun. Also this area can be windy, as much of Anini Beach is, but waters are typically calm.

You can sit and watch the Kite and Wind Surfers, and the many snorkelers that frequent the waters looking for turtles and other fish.

Directions

Once you get to Anini Becah (see below) keep going, your turn a point and see a few houses on the road opposite the beach. After these houses this is the first parking area.

From Lihue
Drive North on the 56 through Kapa’a and Kilauea. Turn right onto the second Kalihiwai Rd. (Kalihiwai is a loop road, the first entrance is about a mile back down the highway). This will be 2 miles past the Kilauea Gas Station (usually the best priced gas on the north shore) between mile marker 25 and 26. Make a left on Anini Road after 1 mile. It’s 1.2 miles to Anini Beach Park along Anini Road,

From North Shore
Drive South on the 56 for 3.5 miles. Turn left onto the first Kalihiwai Rd. (Kalihiwai is a loop road, the second entrance is about a mile down the highway.) This will be 2 miles before the Kilauea Gas Station (usually the best priced gas on the north shore) between mile marker 25 and 26. Make a left on Anini Rd. after 1 mile. It’s 1.2 miles to Anini Beach Park along Anini Rd.

From South Shore
Drive North on the 520 back to the 50. Make a right on the 50, drive 32.5 miles through Lihue, Kapa’a, and Kilauea. Turn right onto the second Kalihiwai Rd. (Kalihiwai is a loop road, the first entrance is about a mile back down the highway.) Make a left on Anini Rd. after 1 mile. It’s 1.2 miles to Anini Beach Park along Anini Rd.

Safety

There is a current moving down the beach towards Wyllie Beach, as well as waves that can push up against the rocks, sometimes all the way up the beach to the road. Time of high surf, or high tide would not be good times to visit this beach. Also walking down to this beach is tricky with tree roots and rocks (not real path), but the good news it’s short and very close to the parking. Be careful on slippery rocks, they are all over the place.
